Embolomeres were a group of sinous, eel or crocodile-like tetrapods with controversial relationships. They have been considered Temnospondyls and even stem-tetrapods in the past, but some current thinking suggests they may be Reptilomorphs (i.e., more closely related to reptiles and mammals than to Lissamphibians like Frogs/Salamanders). They were among the top predators of their time, having first evolved in the Early Carboniferous and lasting up until the Late Permian (though they grew increasingly rare by the Permian). Archeria is a large, long-snouted member known from Early Permian rock of Texas and Oklahoma. It is known from an adult specimen about 2 meters (6ft) in length, and was a predator of fish and other aquatic animals.
